Nothing. I just want to see how many hits a
post with the above title will get. To be clear, the Bible delights in dancing,
but of the kind in which people dance together, young and old, or in joy
before the Lord. For the steamy details, go here.

Nothing? The worshippers of Asherah erected poles. We know from Dt 16.21, Judges 6.25 and elsewhere that the poles were often erected next to altars for Baal. In 1 Kings 18:19,26, we have prophets of Baal and Asherah getting together and dancing around their altar - and presumably the adjoining Asherah pole as well. We have terra cotta figurines of Cypriot women dancing around sacred poles. All of this behavior is roundly condemned in the Bible (Ex 34:13, etc.).

Well, Vincent. I stand corrected.
I don't remember seeing those terracotta figurines with Cypriot women dancing around poles. I blame Hershel Shanks. I subscribe to BAR for that reason. He is always putting things like that on the cover of his mag. His bad.

Hm. Interesting question.
It's easy to say 'what does the Bible say about...' then it is to find the answer! I only say that because more activities are created that didn't exist way back when. However, these activities usually exert feelings and emotions that HAVE been around since ever, and that's where I think the Bible would be a useful source.
Pole dancing. Don't think anyone will find that particular activity written, but to dive into the PURPOSE of pole dancing and what it emits flesh wise...Then we might get somewhere.
Putting the context under the light makes it easier to conduct such a research, rather than looking for a specific name in scripture.

Very true, Jay.

God explicitly forbid the worship of other Gods, and for good reason. The main WAY they worshiped Baal and Asherah was through male and female prostitution ON THE ALTAR - which was surrounded by POLES - gee do you see any correlation there at all??
