The Bible translation debate continues to heat up. Martin Shields has decided to weigh in. Note the excellent Lawrence Venuti quote he offers. Venuti gave the Nida lecture at SBL-Boston a couple of months ago.
Martin plans to demonstrate a third way, not DE or FE, to be exemplified by
way of a new translation of Genesis 1. Key graph:
My foreignising translation aims to use contemporary English grammar and syntax, but preserve or highlight alien aspects of the text in such a way that the reader cannot easily ignore the differences but is forced to see them.
