Avery Cardinal Dulles 1918-2008

All of us should feel drawn, wrote Dulles, “to a Christianity that is both evangelical and catholic.” For a fine set on online essays penned by Dulles for First Things, go here. Here is his 1996 piece in which he implored Catholics to become more evangelical. Dulles was also a staunch defender of the doctrine of biblical inerrancy. In this review, he reduced the famous volume by Rogers and McKim to tatters. The review ought to be required reading by all those who wish to speak in a responsible manner about the authority of Scripture.

The Cardinal was an enthusiastic supporter of the Evangelical Catholic movement, a tender wing of the church universal I feel a great affinity with. From a press release:
