Psalm 37:17b, 18, and 29

The “Psalm” of Matins today in the lectionary of the Coptic Orthodox Church is Ps 37:17, Ps 37:18, and Ps 37:29. The lectionary creates a new text from components of the biblical text.

וְסוֹמֵךְ צַדִּיקִים יְהוָה

יוֹדֵעַ יְהוָה  יְמֵי תְמִימִם

וְנַחֲלָתָם לְעוֹלָם תִּהְיֶה

צַדִּיקִים יִירְשׁוּ אָרֶץ

וְיִשְׁכְּנוּ לָעַד עָלֶיהָ

But יהוה is the upholder of the righteous.

יהוה cares for the needs of the blameless,

      their portion lasts forever.

The righteous shall inherit the land,

      and dwell in it forever.
