I thought it’d be fun to compile a list of bloggers who will be presenting in one or more SBL sessions in San Diego in November. I have also included a few scholars who may not blog, but who have a strong presence online via sites they administer or contribute to.
A few preliminary comments.
The really smart people don’t present at SBL. They come to schmooze, buy books at a discount, and get another look at Jim West.
A big mistake is to submit two paper proposals in the hopes of getting one accepted, only to have them both be accepted. This has happened two years in a row in my case. It really isn’t necessary. Some of us just want to feel useful, I guess.
The following list is preliminary. Let me know if I overlooked you.
Barry
Bandstra (non-blogger with helpful site)
Ehud Ben Zvi (non-blogger with helpful site)
David Clines (non-blogger with helpful site)
Ralph Klein (non-blogger with helpful site)
Robert Kraft (non-blogger with helpful site)
Steve Mason (non-blogger with helpful site)
For the papers the above are scheduled to present, see the online program book of the meeting here.
The papers that Klein, Crossley, Cargill, and Goodacre will present as well and Niels Peter Lemche's part on a panel discussion; the Copenhagen/ Sheffield dinner; seeing Keith Whitelam again (along with the rest of the C/S gang); and major book discounts are the reasons I'm going this year. So I suppose it's 20% papers, 70% seeing friends, and 10% book discounts that give me purpose.
As to the horrific sight of seeing myself- well, I do have a mirror and need not travel all the way to SD for that wretchedness!!!!

Jim and Bob,
I look forward to seeing you both there. I will highlight some sessions and papers that interest me in a future post.

Among the bloggers, I'd recommend hearing Steve Cook's paper. It comes right after Saul Olyan's one in the "Disability Studies and Healthcare in the Bible and Near East" section on Monday morning.
