The comic strip version of Genesis by Robert Crumb is destined to be controversial. Chris Brady comments and offers an excellent set of links.
Crumb’s art makes a great conversation piece. It’s also a fine way to fix the biblical stories in one’s mind, since a picture is worth a thousand words from many points of view. To be sure, Crumb has a number of obsessions. In his notes, but not in his illustrations, he focuses on the conflict between matriarchy and patriarchy as he understands it. A lot of people do, though not often in the way Crumb does.
Crumb’s illustrations do a fantastic job of framing Genesis in terms of the comic book genre. Here is a link to all of Genesis 1-3 as illustrated by Robert Crumb. Click on a strip for magnification.
