Today’s Christian Woman (TCW) is not a magazine I read. From Christianity Today, I mostly stick to Books & Culture: A Christian Review. But it caught my eye that TCW has made combating domestic violence its Cause of the Year. The comment threads are heart-rending. See:
My
Abusive “Christian” Marriage
Here is a comment from Michelle Major on the
original article thread I think sums matters up well:
Thank you to the author for coming forward with this story. Like her, I
married a Christian man I met in my church choir. He began to hit me while I
was pregnant. He then attempted to murder me when our newborn was five weeks
old. I am an artist, and he took a butcher knife and slashed 94 of my paintings
to shreds. People couldn’t believe that the man that strangled me was the same
man that sang in the choir and doted on his wife in front of our church family.
Domestic violence is an ugly secret hidden behind all types of doors in all types
of homes. Not discriminating among socio-economic status, religion, or race. It’s
a social taboo we need to shine a light on to help and encourage women who are
trapped in hopeless and helpless situations.

Its nice to see you profile this kind of story. All too often women who survive long term violence experience exclusion since people do not like to admit that we live in this kind of world.
