Suzanne
McCarthy, rumor has it, will continue to blog through Psalm 68 in the coming
weeks and months. That is excellent news. In the meantime, she shares some
reflections on the art of translation in a recent
post. She is reading John Hollander’s The Work of Poetry. This is
just the kind of book a Bible translator needs to read, as well as anyone who
specializes in those parts of the Hebrew Bible that are written in poetry - that includes most of the latter prophets, many of the ketuvim, and insets here
and there in the prose literature.
I
have a translation of all of Psalm 68 drafted, but it will take me some time to
work it up properly. For now, here is a bilingual edition of 68:2-11.
